Hello You Who Know London

My partner and I have lived in Asia for the last fifteen years but are now considering leaving. Although we have never lived in the UK, London is one of the places we are thinking of and I’d appreciate any thoughts.

  1. Our major concerns are the long, dark winters and whether we would be able to make friends (we are both introverts!)
  2. The major attractions for us are the vibrancy as well as ease of travel to Europe. I also have some family in Southern England.
  3. Given our age, this would possibly be our last move and we may retire in the UK. This is by no means a certainty but definitely a consideration.
  4. While not stinking rich, our incomes should be enough that we shouldn‘t be just scraping by. We‘d also likely buy something small, rather than rent. Ideally, we’d like to live not too far from one of the larger parks or commons.
  5. One of the other options we are considering is New York City (I’ve worked there before but commuted in, my partner lived there for a while before I met her)
  6. For the purposes of replying to this question, you can assume that visa and job issues are sorted out (they aren’t but let’s ignore them!)

So…any thoughts or comments?
