on behalf of my 17-year-old daughter, who resides with her adoptive parents in Alabama. I am extremely concerned about her safety and well-being due to ongoing abuse she is experiencing in the home.

Unfortunately, she has been mistreated by her adoptive parents for a considerable amount of time. Despite her repeated attempts to report the abuse to authorities, her claims have been dismissed. Recently, the situation escalated when she was kicked out of the house and forced to find refuge with a friend. Her adoptive parents then falsely reported her missing to the police, jeopardizing her friend's safety. She returned home to avoid further trouble for her friend.

Fearing for her safety, she contacted the National Teen Hotline and explained her situation. The hotline, in turn, contacted law enforcement on her behalf. However, the responding officers sided with the adoptive parents and essentially accused her of lying and being disruptive.

While she has identified a safe and permanent alternative living arrangement, Alabama's legal age of majority (19) prevents her from leaving independently. This situation is untenable for another year and a half. The ongoing abuse is taking a significant toll on her mental health and overall well-being.

We are desperately seeking your expertise on her options. Here are some specific questions we have:

Are there legal pathways for her to leave the abusive home environment without facing legal repercussions? Given the documented history of abuse, is there a possibility for her to file for emancipation before the age of 19?
