[MI] New company took over managing the apartments and has reassessed our rent from the agreed amount and is asking more on an already strained budget. Should I start looking for a lawyer?

Post Body

I'm not sure where to even start. I'm not the head of house but my name is on the lease. Are the lawyers that work for a fee tied to a victory in the case? Afraid fighting the rent increase will end up costing more than just accepting it.

We recently moved from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom and they're still holding onto the cashier check the previous company sent them in regards to our security deposit of the 1 bedroom.
