I am completing a directed study at the graduate level this fall semester and want to get a better grasp on some terms that occasionally come up in the literature in LGBTQ studies. I've heard a lot about transgender in recent years both academically and in my personal life, however, I don't hear a lot about the term trans-sexual though it occasionally comes up in the literature as distinct but similar to transgender.
I guess I'm hoping for some different perspectives to keep in mind as I work go through my directed study as I will be doing some analytical work on different tensions between feminist, queer, and trans scholars who write about sexual ethics. The transgender & trans-sexual discussion is one of the places where scholarship can get really complicated and I want to have a better baseline for how people in the lgbtq community think about the different terms.
I'm sorry if I've worded this in a way that is insensitive, I've been struggle bussing about this topic for the entire summer and I am just at a complete loss.
