After living in Dublin for years I decided to move to commuter town to see if it would suit me with a view to buying nearby. A property came on the market, I viewed, bid back and a forth for a bit. Eventually got told that I was the highest offer and after being messed around for about 6 weeks got told that the sellers had changed their mind and weren’t ready to sell.
In the meantime the situation with my housemates had deteriorated massively and I decided to move out. Got totally lucky and have ended up moving back into Dublin renting my dream house in a dream area with one other lovely girl, back to cycling to work, started a new relationship that’s going well, we’ve talked about the possibility of buying together and of moving away together but it’s very early days, enjoying being able to re-engage in nightlife and friendships etc. All good.
The estate agent rang me on Thursday to tell me that the sellers are now willing to accept my offer. I don’t know what to do. Six weeks ago, I would have been overjoyed. But now I don’t know what to do. I wasn’t unhappy outside of the city; there are plenty of positives to that lifestyle but I’m so happy where I am now. But it seems stupid to throw away the opportunity to buy a decent property right now, and I've only been in my new place about a month, maybe the fun will wear thin.
I will never be able to afford something similar in Dublin anyway so is it silly to spend another year living here when ultimately, I’m going to have to start again when I eventually decide to buy anyway. But if I stay renting here for another year or so I’ll be able to take out a bigger mortgage and have at least 10k more in savings.
I’m 34F and feel totally conflicted and torn. Obviously told the EA that I needed time to think but I will have to give an answer eventually.
