I need a bit of a rant/vent.
I've been looking for a job since March! Granted, some of that time I was in Canada and looking for work both there and back home. Back in Ireland now due to visa issues.
I've a mechanical engineering degree and just finished am online masters last year. Unfortunately, I don't have manufacturing, pharma, medical devices or food industry experience, nor do I have much construction experience other than at lower levels. Background is in automotive, product development, testing etc. Of which there seems to be f all in Ireland.
I've also tried getting into consulting. But there seems to be massive layoffs, recruitment freeze, inflation worries etc etc.
Between sending my CV to online job postings talking to recruiters, and sending connection and networking requests on LinkedIn, I've probably had well over 1000 attempts at getting work. In all that time, I've had 3 interviews which came to nothing.
I'm feeling pretty depressed and useless over the whole thing. Could use some encouragement, or ideas, or success stories, or even just acknowledgement that it's not just me.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk
