I’m 24, and my dad used to say that in anger, a person always speaks the truth.
Recently, this happened: we were in a small argument, and he got very angry. He said to me, "Shakal acchi nahi hai toh akal toh chala" (and no, he didn't say that in a light tone).
My father passed away in December 2023. Since then, my mom has been very emotional. I was working, and she was disturbing me, so I told her not to disturb me (in a slightly raised tone, which I know I shouldn't have used). After some time, when I was free, we had a little fight. Mom was very angry and emotional, and she said the same thing to me.
I know it's not a big deal in Indian households. But we know when our parents are saying something just to say it or when they are saying it from their heart.
This really hurt me because I felt they were saying it from their hearts.
My life revolves around them. I never had friends, I never go out—I'm always with them. I always try to be however they want me to be. That’s why it hurts me.
