Going to buy a laptop. What all potholes should I be looking for?

I am going to buy a laptop for myself after a very very long time. I am not a very techno savvy person and will be using it for both personal and professional level. I do have a heavy usage of laptop though.
Can you guys please suggest some of the things and potholes I shall be looking for while choosing a pick. It can be anything from brand to processor to ease of using the machine. Please help guys, calling in for besahara ki madad. 🙏🏻
PS. Can't go for Apple since I can't afford it.
