Tips for a foreigner teaching the less fortunate in India

Post Body

Hi,

I am an Australian (Sri Lankan by heritage) citizen travelling to Mumbai next month to walk through the country. I am aiming for Chennai and will be crossing over to Sri Lanka eventually.

Throughout my walking trip, I would love to visit some of the poorer parts of the country and offer to teach English or anything thatโ€™s needed to the less fortunate children within these areas.

Does anyone have any tips as to how I can go about this? I am unsure as to how receptive the locals within each town will be to my presence and willingness to help.

I am not coming into the country with any agenda, be it religious or otherwise. I just want to make my time in India less about myself and more about helping others.

FYI, Iโ€™m on my own sort of spiritual journey, which is my reason for walking through the country in the first place haha. Just trying to find some kind of meaning.
