Has any country ever asked other countries to refer to it by a different name?
Post Body

Not long ago, Czechia was the Czech Republic. As far as I understand, this name change in many ways came down to "marketing" - Czechia was easier for people who spoke other languages, and it was just overall less clunky. Kind of like saying "France" over "the French Republic."

But I'm wondering if something sort of the other way around has happened. For example, locally, India is known as "Bharat"; Finland is called "Suomi"; Japan is "Nihon" or "Nipon". Germany has lots of names depending on what language you speak.

Has there ever been a case where a country like that has protested the way that other languages name their country? Like, has a place like Albania ever been like, "Yo, our country is called Shqiperia - stop saying 'Albania'!" ?
