Why do revolutionaries destroy culture?
Post Body

Pretty much every revolution I’ve read about, from the 1381 Peasant Revolt to the French Revolution—and I suppose one can argue present movements like Black Lives Matter could be added to this category—tend to destroy cultural achievements. In the case of the French it was medieval cathedrals (or whatever was left after the Protestant Reformation). In 1381 the peasants destroyed manors and burned records of said manors (which actually is easiest to understand why). Point is, there’s always an orgy of destruction, be they priceless works of art or masterful architecture. So my question is, why do uprisings and cultural destruction correlate?
