Why didn't the Dutch or the British take Timor-Leste/East Timor from the Portuguese?

So from what I understand the Portuguese colonized Timor-Leste/East Timor for its sandalwood and after Japan severed trade with them, its trading post in China (Macau) relied on the sandalwood trade in order to remain profitable.

What I don't understand though is why didn't the Dutch or British never try to take Timor-Leste/East Timor from the Portuguese? As the very least the Dutch were the Portuguese's biggest rivals and by taking Timor-Leste/East Timor from them they could end Portuguese influence in Southeast and East Asia.
