Why did the founder(s) was Islam oppose usury so much?
Post Body
Verses like
"There are seventy degrees of usury, the least of which is equivalent to a man having intercourse with his mother."
and
the Messenger of Allah cursed the one who consumes usury, the one who pays it, those who witness it and the one who writes it down.
What was it about the social sphere of the society and people who founded islam that led them to oppose usury so much? Does it relate to mohammed merchant background? the social positions of the people he was trying to appeal to/convert?
what was the power of the banking sector like in 7th century arabia?
