Until 1745, London's Barbers and Surgeons were united in one Royal Company of Barber-Surgeons. What were the political and professional causes of this split in the Barber-Surgeons Company, and why did this happen specifically in 1745?
Post Body
Most of what I've read focusses on the company's administrative make up and its members, but gives little insight into the reasons for the break up in 1745, other than surgery was becoming more 'professional'. The year is especially interesting to me considering the Royal College of Surgeons was not formally established until 1800.
