Why Black Male Suffrage come before Women suffrage? I assumed previous American's viewed black slaves as ignorant and stupid. Did they believe women to less educated than people that were previously slaves?

Was the assumption that women were built for the home, so more than likely a woman would not have any education? I'm trying understand the thought process of people back then, on how they viewed black people and women in the past.
