Why do the (American) Pilgrims get so much credit?
Post Body
Sure the Mayflower was early, but it was not the first permanent English American settlement; there was success and tobacco from Virgina years before. So why do the Pilgrims get so much of the "founding myth" credit? Were they revered early on, or was this a 19th century invention along with Thanksgiving? Or something else?
