Was the loss of the American colonies actually devastating to King George III, or is this a product of American pop culture?
Post Body

It seems to be a common trope in subjects that deal with the American revolution and its aftermath that the loss of the American colonies was what set King George III on his path into madness. But is this actually born out by history? What was King George's relationship with the American colonies beyond the grievances of the colonial revolutionaries?
