What sort of aristocracy existed in the Song, Yuan, and/or Ming?
Post Body
A recent question has some discussion in the comments about the fact that during this time in what is now China, there was no hereditary noble class in the way there was in Europe at the same time.
What was the role and meaning of titles given by the emperor? Was there an expectation that hereditary land-owning families would be given certain types of titles?
