What was the experience of early muslim converts in the subcontinent?
Post Body

Hi everyone, I have been searching for accounts of early converts in this region. Just trying to understand who were the converts? how did others in their community respond to this? When did local leadership acknowledge this trend and how did it react?

I took a class on Islam in the subcontinent a few years ago and it addressed the general trends and was looking at it on a macro level, glossing over many years at a time. I'd like to get more information from the beginning on a granular level.

I tried searching this myself but perhaps I'm not using the correct search terms. It would be great if someone could direct me to some authors/books that talk about this.

Curious mostly because my family is Indian Muslims and we can trace our roots back up a few generations to the late Mughals (low level coutiers) -- before that things are fuzzy.
