Books that talk about the history of and what it was like to be a skilled tradesmen/artisan/craftsmen in the pre-industrial era?
Post Body
I'm interested in reading about the history of apprentices/journeymen/masters in the pre-industrial era, whether this be ancient times, the medieval era, or the early modern era (or all of the above). Whether it be in the west or outside the west.
They may go over how the trades were organized, how they existed in the context of the larger economy and society, or how these people engaged in political activities to achieve their interests.
Some sort of introductory book that goes over many of these things, while perhaps not going into great depth on any particular one, would be fine, especially if it has a bibliography I can look at if I'm interested in looking into specific sub-topics.
Thanks.
