Did American and Soviet soldiers round up defeated nazis after a battle and kill them?

Spoilers for JoJo Rabbit.
I'm well aware that the movie is entirely fictitious, but in the end of the movie allied forces were seen rounding up defeated and unarmed soldiers after a battle and gunning them down. I'm wondering if there is any historical accuracy to that.
