I'm trying to read up on Ancient Greek political and military conflicts, but I feel like I'm drowning in the Peloponnesian War, even trying to read about Archaic Greece, it feels like a lot of authors are trying to foreshadow that conflict. I'm sure the comparative excess of Athenian sources and fetishizing of Sparta aren't helping either. That's not to say I don't want to hear about those two, just not about their rivalry with one another. Sparta and Argos for example; all of my books seem to take for granted that they were rivals and don't really expound on that.
So what are the major rivalries of ancient Greece, especially before the formation of the Delian League?
