In a time where there is so much division in the United States the terms liberal and conservative have been used more pejoratively by those claiming to adhere strictly to one or the other. Specifically, i think of how liberal tends to have a very weak connotation associated with it despite the fact that the United States, when it was first created, was probably the most liberal country on the planet at the time having broken completely with tradition, which is what i feel is typically associated with conservativism. I thought if someone with true knowledge on liberalism and conservatism over time could share how their meanings had changed it can shed light and give a foundation to our (likely caricaturized) beliefs of how they're used today.
