The film depicts a wild life for the two protagonists in which Max's sister is in the military and lives openly with a female lover. The two are seen embracing in a cafe and at a party. They entertain two servicemen by kissing on request. At the aforementioned party, there is also cocaine use.
All of this struck me as off. It seemed to be an attempt to shoehorn modern sensibilities into a period piece. Am I wrong? Was it simply successfully demonstrating that such open vices were on display not just in some areas, but in intelligence service member?
