The Witcher 3 has been criticised for being whitewashed, including no non-white characters as far as I'm aware. Some people have defended this by claiming it's an accurate representation of mediaeval Poland, on which the series is loosely based. Elves, witches, ghoulies, ghosties, long-leggedly beasties and things that go bump in the night notwithstanding, is there any truth to this argument?
Off the top of my head, I can think of a couple of problems with it. Poland used to have a sizeable Jewish population and has bordered both the Goldon Horde and the Ottoman Empire at some time or another. Surely there must have been some amount of cultural cross pollination, but I'd like to hear from someone more in the know.
