To what extent was the post-WW2 US economic boom the result of other countries having their factories/industrial capacity destroyed?
Post Body

In my limited understanding of history, Germany, Russia, Japan, the UK, and other regions suffered serious damage to their urban areas in the fighting of WW2, as lately popularized by past/present photo comparisons of these areas. I'm curious about two topics. (Apologies if these had been asked before, I looked through the FAQ/popular questions.)

1) Did this destruction leave the US with the most industrial capacity, and did this "survivor bias" drive the post war boom?

2) I'd heard (basically from board games like Axis & Allies) that even if Germany fought the Allies to stalemate, that US production was so great that it would eventually overwhelm the Reich. How did the US end up in such an economically advantageous position?
