I recently visited Buenos Aires, and learned a lot more about Argentine history than I knew previously. I knew about the ratlines that smuggled Nazis to Argentina, but I didn't know that Per贸n had practically rolled out the red carpet for them.
I know Argentina helped the Axis powers during the war, and that Per贸n thought the Nuremberg trials were a farce. Obviously you'd want to take care of your buddies if you could, right? But given how much the Allied powers (and later Mossad) wanted to pursue justice, taking in Nazis was a very difficult prospect. So why do it?
What benefit could inviting Nazis bring to Argentina? Why would Per贸n be so willing to risk pariah status to help people widely considered war criminals? What did he hope to gain, personally, professionally, or for his country?
