What were the reactions to the Taiping Rebellion by Chinese Christians and Western Christians, and how did the legacy of the rebellion impact later missionary efforts?
Post Body

Did Chinese Christians try and actively affirm their loyalty to the Qing Dynasty to avoid being persecuted? Did they consider the "innovations" of the Heavenly Kingdom to be simple heresy or something else?

And while I know the Taiping Rebellion instilled a deep suspicion of Christianity in many future rulers of China, how did it impact the perception of missionary efforts by Western missionaries and native Chinese seeking to spread the faith? Did some Western Christians conclude that Chinese weren't "civilized" enough to be Christians, and regular Chinese become much more suspicious of Christianity in the wake of the rebellion?

Please feel free to answer any of these questions you feel you can. Thanks!
