First hand accounts of early civilian passengers on flights?

As I'm writing this, I'm sitting in Sao Paulo airport after enduring a long and hellish 15 hours flight from London. During the flight, my thoughts went to the early years of civilian airfare. Are there accounts of the experience of having to endure long flights? Was motion sickness widespread? Were there any airlines that were known for having a better service or anything of the like that we have today?
