Hi all,
I work for FTSE 250 company (don't know if that's relevant...) and I was screwed on large pot of money. Here's the story:
- February 2017 - I get promotion to managerial position
- April 2018 - I receive substantial bonus because company did very well and I achieved all my goals. Total bonus equalled almost 20% of my annual salary (20% was maximum)
- April 2019 - I receive small bonus (couple of %) with written confirmation of error meaning I should have had 40% bonus at the moment I was promoted to managerial position. Looks like my line manager messed up and didn't chase HR to update my grade. Nevertheless the error was partially fixed. I received double bonus this year.
As a result of this error I didn't subscribe to private pension scheme simply because I thought I was on 4% employee 4% employed contribution. However, I realized that I should have been on much more generous pension scheme 5% employee 10% employer.
To sum up, this all mix ups costs me nearly 17,000 GBP (bonus in April 2018 2 years pension contribution).
Do I have legal stand here? Is there something I can do to get these money back? They did fix it partially which could be seen as admission of guilt?
Also, because of that issue I decided to leave the company and join competition. I will soon be resigning. In such case, will it hurt my references if I choose to chase my employer for that money? Does it make sense to start formal grievance procedure?
What should I do?
PS. Obligatory, English is not my first language :)
