I feel that in recent years a lot of people I talk with online, whether they be people I've known for a while or people I've met more recently, seem to be lacking some basic communication skills. Things such as taking forever to respond, seeing my messages and not responding at all, changing the subject, etc... sometimes I wonder what's the point in engaging with these people?
I'm not saying that people give me their undivided attention and answer me immediately. I agree that just because most of us have quick and easy access to the internet and social media doesn't mean we should dedicate every moment to those things. I myself disable app notifications so that I'm not glued to my phone all the time. But I also can't help but think how rude it is to just leave people hanging. I feel embarassed if I see a message sent to me by a friend and don't respond at all.
I wonder if I'm being unreasonable here? I'm just reminded of how growing up as something of a shy kid people would ignore what I'd have to say and/or speak over me (including my own family). Nowadays I confront people over that sort of thing when in person, but on apps/social media I avoid that so as to not look "crazy".
