I'm a relatively new DM and something odd happened that I wasn't expecting. For context to me and my players play on discord and they asked to be moved to private chat so they could surprise me with a plan. Not a big deal. They wanted to explode a lighting rail train ( my campaign is in ebberon) by breaking the engine. The way I initially went through it that didn't happen they released the lighting elemental that powered the train then it started to slow but one player said something along the lines of "come on man rule of cool!!!" I was confused and a little frustrated about this because they argued with me about the results of them breaking the engine for a few minutes until I gave in to move the seccion on. How do I prevent this type of behavior in the future It'd be one thing if it was my mistake but it feels like they expected one thing to happen and when it didn't they fought for it until I gave in. I encourage my players to rule check me if I make a mistake so I can learn and be more consistent but this was just odd. Don't take it as me complaining about my players they are good folks and good players but it just felt like they wanted me to make thing happen around the way they wanted but it didn't so they started to fight. Any advice on this would be appreciated if something like this has happened to someone else and tips on how to handle it in the future.
