What did ancient native civilizations use to strain food?

Iā€™m thinking of the Aztec and Mayan civilizations in particular. I was watching Sohla Cooks Tamales on the History channel on YouTube, and at some point she strains out guava seeds from the filling she is making. It made me wonder if these civilizations had anything similar that they used prior to Europeans introducing them to such things.
