I’m a salesperson and I hate it.
Here is my background:
I’m 26 years old. I have a marketing degree from a Big Ten university (look at my username - I’ll give you one guess). I’ve worked in marketing and sales for the past 6 years, and I’ve reached a point where I can’t do it anymore. This isn’t my passion, and it shows. I’ve always loved working with my hands, being active, and being outside. The best career I can see that encompasses those things is engineering (from a personal and financial satisfaction POV).
I recently moved to Phoenix, and I’ve been accepted to ASU’s environmental science undergrad program. My grades weren’t good enough to get into grad school, or into an engineering program, so that is where I’d have to start.
The problem is, I can’t afford the cost of a second degree, and I don’t want to put myself $100k in student debt at this point in my life. Is there another path I can take to get into an engineering field?
Other paths I’ve thought of are:
Find work at an engineering firm using my current degree and hope they help pay for an engineering degree. I don’t know what the prospects of this panning out are.
Attend a more affordable college to take care of some of the required coursework at a lower rate.
Lists come in threes, but I can’t think of a third option.
