How does one get into a very niche field?

I'm currently working on my Master's in Mechanical Engineering. I have about a year and a half worth of experience but more so in govt contracts. After school, I'd like to get into medical modeling/prosthetics. I've started the job hunt process but I'm not finding too much/not sure what to look for. Any advice on how to get into this field?
