Considering support patio cover by eaves and fascia

Post Body

I want to check if it’s safe to add heavy patio cover to the fascia on my eaves. The eaves is 16”overhang on 2x8 spaced 24” apart. The weight is about 70lbf per 2x4 at the fascia. Using simple beam model(ignoring the eaves slope) I’m getting about 85psi compressive stress and 6.5psi shear stress.

These numbers seem to be much much smaller than the Douglas fir strength I can find online (6kpsi compressive and 1.5kpsi shear).

I also want to check wind load. I’m ME by training so I’m not sure how to interpret the wind load requirement in residential code. Can someone help check horizontal wind load or guide me through the calculation?

Another issue is I have a gutter attached to the fascia. Is there a good way to brace the patio cover structure to bottom face of the fascia? Some kind of structural brace? Simple lag bolts? Fascia board is also 2x8.

Appreciate any feedback.
