How to properly dimension drafts/drawings?

Post Body

I’m in my third year of my engineering degree, and just started my first internship. I’ve made quite a few engineering drafts/drawings but never fully understood how to make them correctly. Most CAD softwares have built-in fully defined sketch detectors but don’t for drawings. How do I know if I am over or under dimensioning? Especially for complex parts that have dimensions that are easy to miss. Is there a method to make sure it is dimensioned correctly? I usually open two CAD documents at the same time, one with the drawing and one for the part as reference. I’m not sure if this is how it is typically done in industry or not. Also, when it comes to parts with repeating patterns, or complex angled pieces, I have a hard time understanding what parts to dimension (angles vs lengths, etc) The last thing I want is to make an important part and mis-dimension it so it can’t be made.
