Smart lock-scanner-QR code for Smart "Fridge"

Post Body

So okay.. i’m trying to create this smart "fridge" that has a smart lock incorporated into the fridge doors and to unlock it you have to scan a qr code to a scanner attached to the fridge and the qr code is generated by an app that im currently developing. It’s for a university project but my mechanical AND software engineering skills are pretty much subpar, HOWEVER i’m more than willing to learn.

more background on the idea:
I’m currently breaking it down into smaller pieces and focusing on building the app that generates qr codes while trying to find a scanner that would be compatible with it. Everything else can follow later. The reason im building an app is because the whole purpose for this fridge is to have it act as a vending machine where people can purchased F&B’s from. The app is where users put in their credit/debit it card info so that the payment can be done automatically through the app using a payment gateway (like uber). The app is also where the qr code will be generated that would allow users to unlock the smart fridge. We also plan to use a smart weighing scale that detects which items have been taken and deducts the corresponding costs directly from the users account via our app.
You might think why not just get a Vending machine? Yes we’re also thinking of doing that at this stage 💀 but before jumping on that idea we want to give the smart fridge idea a go because it has its unique traits and quirks and we want to do something slightly outside the box. Also add to the fact that I genuinely want to learn the technical processes behind the system. It does seem delusional to aim for this level of engineering feat but fuck it I wanna see just how far I can go

With all that being said do you think this is a doable project?

Do i have to get all the individual components first and test it out on a back board to make sure the system flow works? (I dont actually know what a back board is 💀)

Or should I just go straight to a manufacturer/developer to the get my smart fridge built?

What programming language is best to connect the API’s of the scanner, smart lock and my app with?

Any advice is valuable right now… tried to make this post as concise as possible so apologies if it seems vague..
