How do I stress test something?

Post Body
I would like to create my own squat rack that can hold the barbell and alsohas a safety on it in case I cannot complete the rep. Because I’ll be building this my self I’ll be using lumper.
How do I know how much weight the safety will able to reliable hold. Especially if the bar with weight falls on it? Id use a metal bar as the safety so is it simply the strength and thickness of the metal bar and of the type of wood?
Thanks. 🖖
