Last night one of my son's electronic toys started going dead, and it started playing creepy slow music. That doesn't seem to me to be the obvious outcome of running either sample based or synthesis based playback on lowered power. Seems like it should just start glitching rather than running slower.
Is this something they program into those toy playback chips on purpose, to emulate a mechanical device going dead? If not, what is the mechanism that causes it to start running at a lower clock speed just because the voltage is dropping?
(Either way it's really creepy)
