3.3v Voltage Regulator

Post Body
Looking to power a 40mA GPS unit that runs off of 3.3v. I have a 5v available power source so I need some sort of regulator.
I've used many a DC DC converter, but for this application with such a low current draw that's certainly overkill.
I'm thinking about using this guy: http://www.onsemi.com/pub_link/Collateral/MC78LC00-D.PDF
Am I missing any details here or are voltage regulators as simple as I think they are?
How can I determine the efficiency of this regulator?
Thanks for your help!
