I just moved into a not so recent house. There was an encased light in the kitchen I wanted to change, connected to a dimmer who also needed to be changed. Nothing suspicious when I removed both. I paid attention to the wires connected to both, since the circuit continues elsewhere around the house.
I installed a brand new dimmer outlet working on 120v, but then, when checking the voltage on the wires where the lighting fixture was/will be : - It went up only to around 95v when the dimmer was off - It went down to 75-80v when the dimmer was on and to full setting
I removed the dimmer to make the circuit direct and I got 120v on the light wires.
Can you help figure out what's going on and how to fix it? I'm scared it's not safe to actually install a light fixture as it is.
Thank you!!
