What is this and how do I connect it if I wanted to use it?

Need help like the title says. Both things seem to be a switch that rotate, the square smaller one has a "catch" when it's rotated, the bigger rectangular box is smooth as you rotate it, and looks like that's a red light on it also. Does anyone know what this is? What it possibly came out of? Plus which wires go to where if I wanted to hook it up to something else...... And what are some of the something elses it would be good to be used with?
