New main panel
Post Body

Hello electricians, I have moderate DIY experience as it relates to electrical work, but I’ve never changed out an entire new panel. I have added sub panels before and changed plenty of receptacles and individual breakers.

I’m looking at changing out an old Sylvania panel. The main disconnect for the house is on the outside of the house and the panel is on the inside. On the main shut off there is two in-line, 100 amp breakers and a separate 50 amp breaker. House was built in the late 70s.

A few questions to make sure that I’m doing this correctly. What is the max amperage of the new panel? Is it 100? Any idea why there is a separate 50 amp main breaker? I have not been able to locate any sub panels that it may go to.

Thanks in advance
