Sub Panel in an Out Building
Post Body

I want to run electricity to an agricultural outbuilding and am in the planning stages. I wanted to run the scenario by everyone here for input.

The starting point is a 200 amp metered panel. The plan is to install an 80 amp breaker, direct bury 3 awg in a 36” trench (with 2” conduit from the panel into the ground) that will extend 500’ to the outbuilding with an 80 amp breakered subpanel with four 20 amp circuits. After voltage drop and accounting for the max load capacity this should allow to safely pull 60 amps at the sub panel. i don’t expect to need that much, but would rather be over prepared than under.

Let me know if there are any immediate issues or flaws with the plan. Thanks in advance.
