Information on how international trade is recorded
Post Body

I hope this is the appropriate way to contribute since I don't have a question.

A lot of people post questions that come down to how various pieces of international trade (franchising rights, movie IPs, remittances, etc) are recorded as part of the balance of payments or GDP. I work at the BEA and I'm happy to share the international standard manual we use for recording purposes found in searchable PDF form here:

https://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/bop/2007/pdf/bpm6.pdf

Not sure if this is worth adding to the international trade FAQ or some sort of reading list but I figured this could help answer some questions and maybe even spark some new ones.
