COPD/CPAP machine
Post Body

68F, US, this question is about my mother and I will copy and paste her diagnosis from hospital stay

1:A cute on chronic respiratory failure; 2:Respiratory distress; 3: Fluid overload; 4: ESRD on dialysis; 5:AKI (acute kidney injury); 6:CKD (chronic kidney disease); 7:Chronic respiratory failure; 8:COPD with exacerbation; 9:Cigarette nicotine dependence; 10:Chronic kidney disease (CKD), stage IV (severe); 11 :Pleural effusion, bilateral; 12: Atelectasis; 13:Drop in hemoglobin; 14:Palliative care patient; Acute respiratory failure

Okay my question is about her CPAP machine. While in the hospital they had to put her on a ventilator to install a main line for dialysis and it was a big struggle to get her off. The nurses and case workers stated it was because she has been wearing her CPAP machine 24/7. She was supposed to only wear at night. Something with being a CO2 overload patient. They were very close to discussing hospice. She comes home and immediately starts using the CPAP again non stop. I told her she isn’t allowed to and she said that’s just not true. I don’t know if these is serious denial or the medication she was on causing her to not remember. Does anyone know the reasoning behind a patient like her and it being unsafe to use a CPAP 24/7?
