I broke my ankle 5 months ago and it still hurts.

I am a 24 y/o male who smokes. I am 5'10 and like 140.
I fractured the bones in my right ankle back in december while drunkenly jumping down a stairwell. My doctor said a small fragment was loose but the way it went, he Didn't think it would cause future problems or required surgery. I trusted his opinion
It is still swollen and somewhat pains me. Im afraid it will hurt forever. Any advice?
