Hey there! I'm a young adult [24M] from Bosnia and Herzegovina and I've been struggling with some strange symptoms lately. Basically four or five months ago I started feeling a vague chest pain after drinking caffeine. I was already aware of my caffeine sensitivity and it gave me heart palpitations at times as well. Towards the end of last year I had the first panic attack of my life (precipitated by paranoia about a bodily sensation while drinking coffee) and I thought that I was going to die. However, the EMTs couldn't find anything wrong with me after doing a basic physical exam and EKG.
Following that I stopped drinking caffeine but my panic attacks continued and I visited the ER one more time only to find that, again, I was okay except for elevated BP but I attributed that to the panic and they gave me diazepam I think. However, my strange symptoms continued. I still felt chest pain on occasion (while at rest and often when flexing or stretching my chest), headband pressure in my head, a strange kind of "dizziness" that wasn't really dizziness, and odd, deep feelings of relaxation from time to time (this might sound very strange as a symptom, but I've almost felt too relaxed).
I went to a family medicine doctor for a checkup and did bloodwork as well. Everything turned out fine. Went to see a cardiologist also who performed a checkup and did an ultrasound and said my heart was strong and healthy. He did diagnose me with hypertension and prescribed me a smaller dose of beta-blockers (nebivolol hydrochloride) because I have a family history of hypertension. I also have white coat syndrome which makes that all the more fun, as you can imagine. He even confirmed it by taking my blood pressure first when I came in and then later again, after I'd calmed down a bit and seeing that it was lower. He suggested that I do a 24-hour blood pressure monitor and EKG at some point, but I have a lot of anxiety over that so I haven't done it yet.
One thing he did recommend was for me to get my thyroid checked. I did and, after seeing an endocrinologist and having an ultrasound, found out I have Hashimoto's disease, but she said that my hormones were okay so my thyroid was still functioning more or less okay and she said how she doesn't think my symptoms were caused by that.
My primary care doctor also advised me to see a mental health professional, which I did, and I got diagnosed with panic disorder and anxiety, and was told that the chest pain, heart racing and palpitations, pressure in head and dizziness can all be symptoms of anxiety (mostly health anxiety). I am currently working on that with psychotherapy and CBT, as well as meditation.
I've developed fairly severe health anxiety because of all this. I keep noticing strange symptoms here and there like a sinking feeling in my chest sometimes, as if my heart almost drops, and get hot and cold flashes here and there, as well as sometimes feel my pulse in odd places such as my lip? I'm really concerned about the chest pain too as my father passed away of a sudden heart attack a month ago (he was 58) which worsened my anxiety considerably.
I wanted to post this to see if anyone has any ideas lol. Should I keep seeeing doctors or consider that this might be related to my anxiety? I'm just worried that I might have something that the doctors overlooked.
