42, male, 6'1", 215-220ish pounds but a 33/34-inch waistline so most people guess that I weight about 190 and are surprised when I tell them my actual weight. I wore a Fitbit for a few years and now have switched to an Apple Watch, and my resting heart rate is between 44-52 bpm—I'd say the average is 48.
For years I figured this was a good thing as I've pretty consistently done intense cardio (running, spinning, Arc Trainer, paddle boarding) for the past 20 years or so. There's been some periods where maybe I'd get lazy and take a few months off, but generally I'm fairly committed.
But now that I'm in my 40s, and with the Covid having me think a lot more about my mortality, I'm starting to wonder, should I be concerned that it's so low? Also, when I do cardio I'll often get into the 170s for portions of the workout. Am I tempting fate by pushing my heart rate 130 bpm faster than the resting rate?
I like to stay in shape, but I don't want to drop dead in my mid 40s.
Thanks for any thoughts.
